Animal Study > Ld50 Test
The following information is about Ld50 Test.
Ld50 Test Defined
LD = lethal dose. Now no longer performed, this animal study was used in toxicology to detect the dose above which a substance has lethal effects. The LD50 test determines the dose of a substance which leads to the death of half the laboratory animals used. This has now been replaced by the approximative LD50 test. This test determines not the exact but only the approximate toxic dose and requires a much smaller number of animals. It was incorporated into German drug testing recommendations in 1995.
